CASTALLOY ANNOUNCES ISO-9001 REGISTRATION

Waukesha, WI, December 2001- What is ISO and why do companies invest so much time and money into getting registered?

Let's begin with the definition of ISO. ISO is the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) based on a world-wide federation of national standards' bodies from some 130 countries, one from each country. It is a non-governmental organization established in 1947. Their mission is to promote the development of standardization and related activities in the world. So, how do the initials I.O.S. (International Organization for Standardization) get transformed into ISO? ISO is a word derived from the Greek language isos meaning "equal".

Why do companies invest so much time and money into getting registered? At Castalloy, the cost / benefit evaluation went beyond customer requirements and the external benefits of becoming a world-wide competitor and developing new products. With the understanding that ISO registration not only develops a common language of quality between Castalloy and our customers, it also proved to have internal benefits as well.

The discipline of detailing areas such as defining written work procedures, documenting records, data collection and participating in internal audits, helped individuals achieve a better understanding of ALL quality practices throughout our organization. In addition, our ISO registration also has improved moral, communication, job satisfaction and an understanding of what is expected of each employee and how their job directly impacts the profitability of our products.

It was this focus and commitment over a 12 month time frame that resulted in 0 major non-conformities on our registration.
